TV Drama: Nicholas Nickleby

 

Here’s another version of the often-told Charles Dickens tale, The Life and Adventures of Nicholas Nickleby. It’s a made-for TV film from Channel Four, UK, in 2001.

It includes the scene at Dotheboys Hall, the school run by Mr and Mrs Squeers. The caning is not quite as in-your-face as the version we previously saw (here) but the dust does literally rise from the seat of the boy’s trousers.
