Lord Mayor hits at unruly youth
In 1982, the new Lord Mayor of Coventry in England sounded out on the state of behaviour of ‘the youth of today.’ He recalled the days when the cane was in use and policeman could hit young people around the ear. ‘If I went home and said the teacher had given me a caning, my father would give me another caning – with a belt,’ Eddie Weaver said.
