Could ‘sin bin’ replace the cane?
As the debate over banning corporal
punishment was hotting up in England in the 1980s, one idea was to create ‘a
disruptive unit’ to isolate persistent trouble-makers. These were soon labelled
a ‘sin bin.’
One local newspaper in 1981 talked to
those for and against the idea. It also asked people in educational circles
whether they were for or against the cane.
As
published in the Sunday Sun (Newcastle upon Tyne, England), 22 March
1981.
