Students give retiring teacher signed paddles
When George Purvis retired as
a high school teacher after 26 years his students presented him with a set of
signed paddles that had warmed many of their backsides.
On his retirement in 1971 his
local newspaper in California, USA, reported, ‘Purvis dispensed discipline that
smarted and imparted. The crack of his paddle against posteriors was a mark of
distinction.’
