Comic: Extra Terrestrial Teacher

School Fun was a British comic book that only lasted for 33 issues from October 1983 when it merged with Buster. Every strip involved a school.

As David Maloney on his website, notes the comic created by Graham Exton focused on desk, blackboard, school bus and mortar board jollity.

Headlining stories included two TV tie-in strips – Coronation Street School,’ featuring juvenile versions of the characters of the popular ‘soap opera’ and ‘Grange Hill Juniors,’ featuring the stars of the gritty children’s drama.

This was 1983 and comics were changing so although many teachers still wore caps and gowns, corporal punishment was virtually unheard of.

A small exception was the strip ‘Extra Terrestrial Teacher (E.T.T.).’ This strip came hot on the heels of the movie E.T. According to Denis Gifford in his Encylopedia of Comic Characters, E.T.T was a sixty million light year trip from Planet Freeky. ‘Accidentally abandoned on Earth by his popeyed pupils, (“Zeeks! I’ve pressed the wrong button”), the Extra Terrestrial Teacher takes a temporary position at Punck Hill Secondary School under the name of Mr Freeky.’

Here are a couple of examples to give you the flavour …
