Book of the Month: A History of the Rod
A History of the Rod in All
Countries, from the earliest period to the present time,
by the Rev. William M. Cooper is without doubt the author’s labour of love.
Over more than 400 pages he covers Romans, monasteries, convents, penal
institutions, the domestic scenes and on and on and on.
Naturally, he has much to say about the
school situation.
Here’s an extract to give you a flavour.
He discusses floggings at several well-known public schools and some very
fruity headmasters.
There is no date of publication given but
it was probably in the mid-1800s. It is out of copyright now and is available
free-of-charge in various sites online, including here.
