Parents vote to bring back school paddling

 

Schools in Bavaria reintroduced corporal punishment in 1947 after parents voted in a statewide referendum.

  1. It's interesting that the Associated Press assumed that schools in southern Germany would use a paddle for school spankings. I think German schools usually used some sort of stick or cane instead. Except in earlier times when they might have used the birch.

  2. Also interesting that each pupil was given a ballot to take home for HIS parents to fill out - so boys only as usual.

  3. Yes.... plus also the sort of kids that actually needed spankings. Maybe would've "lost" the ballot paper if they knew which way their parents would vote. Giving pieces of paper to kids at school, doesn't seem a very secure way of making such a big decision.

    I suppose some kids would've intercepted the postal mail too though.
