Paddle-making in U.S. is good business
Punishment paddles were not only used
frequently in United States schools, they played a significant part in the
lives of university students as well. Except that the students were playing
with paddles for fun.
By 1935, Wayne Allen had been making
paddles for the University of Missouri for 32 years.
As published in the Holdenville
Daily News (Oklahoma, United
States), 27 November 1935.
It seems paddle making was good business,
here’s a report from 1941 about Russell Nash and his Nash’s Old Hickory Paddle
company that produced 8,000 paddles in a year.
As published in Santa
Barbara News-Press (California, United
States), 7 September 1941
And another report, this time
from 1939.
As published in Muskogee
Daily Phoenix and Times-Democrat
(Oklahoma), 27 July 1939
