Favourite School CP Movie Clips: 9
You can see a clip of the paddling scene in the movie Dead Poets Society all over the Internet and that’s positive proof that it is well liked and it should be at number 9 in my own personal all-time favourite school corporal punishment scenes from mainstream movies.
For those who care what the rest of the
film is about, it is set in 1959 at Welton Academy, an all-male, elite prep school in the United States. The
senior boys are influenced by a new English teacher John Keating, a Welton
alumnus himself who encourages the boys to be themselves.
They learn that
Keating was a member of the unsanctioned Dead Poets Society while he was at
Welton and they restart the club and sneak off campus to a cave where they read
poetry and verse, including their own compositions.
One boy,
Charlie, takes things too far when he publishes an article in the school
newspaper in the club’s name demanding that girls be admitted to Welton. The
school principal paddles Charlie to coerce him into revealing who else is in
the Dead Poets Society, but he resists.
