Should schoolgirls be caned?
From time to time ‘controversy’ reigned
about whether girls should be caned at school just like the boys.
In a commentary from 1920 the writer
firmly believes girls should be caned. ‘It
would make for a sense of discipline, which in these days girls need even more
than boys.’
Below that, a Dr Kitching is
against caning girls. He says in certain cases caning was a form of punishment
which involved serious risk. He adds ‘In the case of boys, the risks must be
accepted.’
