Head threatens to strap girls just like the boys
When a headmaster threatened to
introduce the strap as punishment on girls in his coeducational school in
Newcastle in 1976, the girls ‘rioted’, according to this report in American
newspapers at the time.
‘With school hooliganism on the rise in Britain, especially among girl rowdies, the debate on caning or strapping coeds spread quickly to the national press and parliament,’ it was said.
As
published in the Monitor (McAllen, Texas, USA), 25 February 1976.
