Memories: Caned almost every day
In my first term
at boarding school I was caned almost every day. Caning was the most common
form of punishment. And since there were hundreds of rules to be broken, there
was a great deal of caning. We were caned for talking after lights-out, for
running in the quadrangle, for jumping down steps, for having dirty shoes, for
untidiness, bad manners, lateness and insubordination – Michael Cobden shares his memories with newspaper
readers in 1980.
