Welcome for cane ban in Navy schools
In 1967 the British abolished
corporal punishment at nautical schools. We saw some of the outrage expressed
in newspapers at the time here.
This editorial comment from a local
evening newspaper welcomes the ban, even though it says many, including the
Lindsey Federation of Women’s Institutes, favour the use of corporal punishment
for criminals.

Echo, 10 May 1967.
