Comic: Shipwreck School

 

Sometimes writers and artists came up with the most ridiculous takes on the school story. By the 1980s, stories about posh boarding schools with cane-wielding prefects and schoolmasters were long gone. Now, inventiveness was the order of the day.

Here’s a strip from Shipwreck School, which ran in the comic Wow! in the 1980s and continued after Wow was merged with Whoppee!

A group of kids and their teacher are stranded on a desert island, but somehow the schoolmaster still has his mortarboard cap and gown, and, even though these were the 1980s, his cane …
