Movie: This is England
This Is England is a 2006 British drama film written and
directed by Shane Meadows. The story centres on young skinheads in England in 1983.
Shaun is a troubled
12-year-old boy who lives with his widowed mother and is frequently antagonised
in school and around town. On the last day of the school year, Shaun gets into
a fight at school with a boy named Harvey after Harvey makes an offensive joke
about his father, who was killed in the Falklands War.
Both are dragged off
to the headmaster’s study. The action thereafter takes place off-screen but the
sound effects and the look on Shaun’s face as he waits outside the office for
his turn are memorable.

Judging by the sound effects, the bully didn't seem so tough after all - what a surprise!
ReplyDeleteVery authentic the sudden start of the fight and the being marched to the headmaster study, no question of who started what, caught fighting you both got caned! Didn't ever see chairs outside the study, stand against the wall and wait . The shout as one left and the head called your name to get in was always daunting. Normally quicker punishment as he had cane in hand and was ready by his desk waiting for you to bend over. Six strokes for fighting firmly applied and witnessed by whichever teacher caught you scrapping in the first place.
