Court case dismissed against head who caned cheeky boys
A court dismissed a case in 1962
against a headmaster who gave two 14-year-old boys six-of-the-best after they
cheeked a woman teacher. One boy said the cane marks on his backside lasted ten
days and that before the headmaster beat him, he had been spanked by his mother
and elder brother. In a footnote the newspaper reported, ‘Mr Collins [the
headmaster] left the court with his cane under his arm.’
