Comic: Winker Watson
Winker Watson – not to be
confused with the race horse – is a comic strip from the Dandy that ran
for about fifty years starting in 1961. He is in the third form of the
Greytowers Boarding School (shades of Billy
Bunter and Greyfriars
here). Winker is forever
playing tricks and trying to avoid unpleasant school activities, much to the
annoyance of his teacher Mr Clarance Creep (known as Creepy).
Noticeably, although he
comes very close at times he is never actually caned.
Winker was drawn by
artist Eric Roberts who also drew the Dandy character Dirty Dick who we
met here.
