FOLLOWING a week of presentations to the retiring
headmaster of Melton Grammar School, Mr. H. Anderson, members of the Old
Grammarians’ Association at their reunion presented him and Mrs. Anderson with
a refrigerator and a cheque for £60.
The head, in turn, made a presentation to the
association of his cane, suitably inscribed with his name and the words, “In
Remembrance.”
As this year’s president of the association, Mr.
Anderson said he hoped the cane would in future be regarded as the symbol of
authority for the president when in office.
‘A
symbol’
Amidst laughter he declared: “I want this to be a
memento of the discipline that some of you had at school and, believe me, it
has done a world of good.
“I can say that it has never been used in temper yet;
or in cold blood. I would like it to remain in the pavilion as a symbol of the
affection I have for you all.”
