Dads Who Care 1
People of a certain age (and possibly social class)
might recall that if you got into trouble at school you would have to answer to
your father when you got home. There was also the tension at the end of the
term when the school report came out. How would Dad react if it wasn’t up to
scratch? Then, there was always the temptation to bunk off school and have fun
with your friends. The penalty if you were found out might be a caning at
school and another dose of discipline when Dad found out.
These real-life scenarios have been replicated many
times over by the video studios and have become staple plots. Welcome to the
first in a series of clips that celebrates Dads Who Care.
The inestimable talent that is Sting
Pictures starts us off. Jonathan has been caught truanting and
now Dad must do his duty. Jonathan is a big “boy” and is probably taller than
Rich O’Shea who plays Dad. But Dad is not deterred. “You might be an older boy
but this is going to teach you a lesson.”
Jonathan appeared in a number of early Sting videos.
One of his claims to fame was that he was never heard to utter a single word
(apparently he as an American with an accent to prove it.)
The clip is from Instruments of Persuasion Part 1
which is available
