Favourite TV Drama Clips: 8
Here are two clips for the price of one at Number 8 in my personal Top 20 favourite school CP scenes from TV drama.
How Green Was My Valley is the story of
the Morgans, a mining family in South Wales during the reign of Queen Victoria.
It centres around Huw, the youngest boy, whose academic ability enables him to
consider a future away from the mines.
In this BBC TV, 20th Century
Fox television co-production from 1975, first Huw is caned by schoolmaster Mr
Jonas in front of the class after a playground fight.
In the second clip, friends of Huw’s father go to the school to seek revenge on Jonas and cane him across the desk with the children cheering on.
There is also a clip from a movie version of How Green Was My Valley, here.

A very rare caning across the back rather than the buttocks. Can’t think of another example of this. Every sign it goes well beyond 12 strokes too. Extraordinary.
ReplyDeleteCaning the back is abuse whereas caning the buttocks is acceptable. The understanding that there is a maximum of six strokes per punishment goes back in history.
