Extract: The 7-ft schoolboy
Peter Pain was seven-feet tall and his
exploits appeared in the Rover story paper from the 1920s. His claim to
fame was (as it says on the tin) that he was 84 ins. tall (that’s seven feet
for readers who only know metric.)
That was pretty much all there was to him,
except that a regular drawing appeared at the top of the story for many weeks
depicting how difficult it was for a schoolmaster to cane Peter on the palm of
his hand.
In this story from Rover, 14 May
1927, Mr Pepper, the school teacher, is angry that Peter has outgrown his suit
and decides that the boy should be caned.
We met the Rover before here.
Nearly 400 editions of the Rover from
the first one in 1922 onward are available to read or download from the Comic
Book Plus website.
