Comic: Knight School
I suppose the comic strip
Knight School may have begun as a pun and developed from there. Four schoolboys
are so fearsome that masters quit their jobs rather than teach them. The school
inspector tears his hair out – what can he do? He travels the length and breadth
of the kingdom until by chance he discovers Knight School “Founded in ye olden
days by King Arthur. Fully equipped to handle ye naughty boys of ye land.” The
teacher is a knight in armour (who sometimes seems to take on the
characteristics of a robot.)
It ran in Whizzer and Chips
in the early 1970s. Whizzer and Chips was itself a weekly British comic that ran from
October 1969 to October 1990. It was actually two comics, one inside the other.
It ran during a period of intense competition in the comics market and a number
of other comics merged into it during this time. Eventually, in 1990, it itself
merged into Buster. At the same time many comic strips were being moved
from title to title, so it became quite confusing to keep track of everything.
In Knight School, Sir Knight
takes on the Fearsome four – and always wins. A recurring drawing is of all
four touching toes while the schoolmaster knight whacks the cane with some
relish.

In this example the tables are turned (slightly) and Sir Knight is on the receiving end of a beating.
