TV Drama: Heartbeat
Here’s another of those bonkers, bullying PE teachers.
This clip is from the long-running British television police drama series Heartbeat
that is set in a fictional rural area of Yorkshire in the1960s.
In this episode, The School of Hard Knocks, a sub-plot
is that the police are concerned that corporal punishment at a school is
excessive. Meanwhile, the PE teacher, who is also a sergeant in the Territorial
Army (the weekend warriors) has illegally taken a gun from his unit and it is
stolen from the PE storeroom at the school.
In this clip two scenes have been edited together. In
the first Bell is beaten with a paddle (it might actually be a mini cricket bat
wrapped in tape) for playing the fool in class. In the second, Whitaker is
accused of breaking into the store room.
