TV drama: Der Laden
Der
Laden (The Store) is a German TV drama adapted
from major novelist Erwin Strittmatter′s autobiographical trilogy of the same
name. It tells the story of the Matt family over three decades starting inn
1919 when they move and set up business in a small town.
Ten-year-old Esau Matt finds it difficult to fit in but begins to make
friends. He gets in trouble at school and while he is being caned in front of
the class by an over-enthusiastic schoolmaster his friend intervenes. He gets
his own caning for his trouble.
