Uproar after 23 boys publicly caned
Twenty-three boys were publicly beaten at their school after they ‘ducked’ three masters under water taps (it was allegedly a tradition). It happened in Australia in 1964 and as these newspaper reports show, it caused some controversy. It was like a public hanging, a newspaper commented.
