Tricks to thwart a hand caning
Back in the days when schoolboys were
caned on the hands (rather than on the bottom) there were many legends about
how to defeat the master. Resin on the palm would split the cane, moving the
hand as the cane descended was another.

Still in Australia and still on getting
out of a caning, do you remember the scene in the 1956 film Smiley, where
the youngster tries the resin trick (but the headmaster is one step ahead of
