Movie: Smiley

Smiley is a sweet (as in saccharine) 1956 Australian movie that had a global success. It is about a small boy who is determined to buy a bicycle and sets about raising the necessary money.

One of his schemes is to get his school pals to cough up if he can prove that spreading rosin (resin) across the palm of the hand will split a cane when he is punished by the headmaster.

Aaaaaah! Bless! Of course, it doesn’t go quite to plan.

The movie is available on DVD. (Try not to confuse it with that John le Carre film, LOL).

Picture and video credits: 20th Century Fox.
