I agree it is a delightful homage to the movie - my only petty quibble is that the strokes are not delivered with anything like the vigour depicted in the movie but we can't have everything can we? TR

ReplyDeleteAppreciate the other comments but this is a great clip for showing the way caning was done at times, without the dramatics they put in movies, there is no doubt these strokes landing and you can see the guts react but they know they are getting six and focus on taking it, thankfully it was not an heavy assault but firm strokes which hurt, striped but allowed you to carry on with the day. The headmaster approach is superb, there just to give the six and indeed 18 strokes, three lads caned in less than two minutes, it was a quick sharp punishment and the headmaster lands the strokes accurately and swiftly, this clip is up there with the legendary trouble in prep as an authentic example of how the cane was used most of the time.
ReplyDeleteIn the movie the boys drop their pajamas to show off their stripes and force the protagonist to show his, even taking a picture. The irony is that the protagonist is a raving heterosexual and the main thread of the movie is his involvement with a girl.
ReplyDeleteSuperb clip, nicely paced. Can imagine a situation where I am one of the three boys that have agreed to be part of the clip and then the other two don’t turn up. I then have to take their places… Ouch!

ReplyDeleteHow anxious they all are to get into place quickly, bend down and swish away their dressing gowns for the caning! Only the first told that he knew the procedure. They all knew it without being told..

ReplyDeleteThey are all wearing standard uniform pyjamas, so he just aims for the same part of the patterm stretched over their bottoms.
ReplyDeleteI was never caned in pyjamas, but a hard slipper was excruciating. After lights out we would be made to bend over the end of a bed and hit on the bottom. I had four once, aged about 15, and they were terrible. I kept trying to move away from the pain but the slipper followed me round. And then l had to get myself back to bed. Anyone else get beaten in the dormitory around the 50's and 60's?
