Memories: The ‘Doc’s’ Caning Prescription

 

Local newspapers (remember them?) in England were always able to fill acres of pages by inviting readers to share their memories. Many would write about their schooldays, and – unsurprisingly, perhaps – they often recalled their headmasters and the punishments they dished out.

Here’s an example from 1995 with recollections of ‘Doc’ Haselhurst of Prince Henry’s Grammar School, Worcestershire, and his caning methods.

  1. That’s a great picture. Rare to see a boy who can touch his toes and keep his legs straight. But the collection of canes, though initially impressive, are rather too thick on closer inspection.
