After corporal punishment was outlawed in most schools in the Australian state of Victoria, teachers had to devise more ‘creative’ forms of discipline. One school principal says he is mystified how often fathers of his pupils recall with a certain fondness their own trips to the office to bend over for ‘six of the best’.
