Row as schoolboy refuses the cane
In 1969 in the northeast of England a mini-saga erupted after a 16-year-old schoolboy refused to be caned by his headmaster. This wasn’t the first time, nor was it the last time, that such an incident occurred in a school. Most often we can assume it never become public, especially with older pupils who might just have left school and gone to work rather than bend over. We met the veteran DJ Bob Harris (here) who was one such.
Here are a few reports from local
newspapers in England about Michael Wales who had entered the prefects’ room
without permission. I have no idea how the issue was resolved.
