Memories: Caning at Harrow School
There were three types of
canings in terms of severity of offence at Harrow School, one of the most
famous elite public schools in England, in the 1950, according to Lord
Patrick Lichfield, who later found fame as a
photographer.
These were the headmaster’s
beating, the housemaster’s beating, and the beating from prefects. But, he says
in this video clip, the most severe beatings were from the prefects. He goes on to
describe how beatings took place.
Lichfield who lived from 1939 to 2005 also produced a book, An illustrated history of Harrow School
