Head in trouble for smacking with rulers

A headmaster caused a bit of a storm when it was discovered he tied four rulers together as a makeshift paddle to punish pupils. Only a slipper or cane were legally allowed to be used. He said he used the rulers because they would not inflict serious injury as a cane might do.

  1. Not really a paddle. More like, an extra big stick to hit girls' hands with.

The headmaster's opinion that hitting really hard on the hands with a cane. Could cause injury. Actually a lot of people now seem to agree with that view.

But on the other hand, of course he wouldn't allowed to spank girls on their bottoms. Probably?

I think the mention that there might be "other unauthorised methods of punishment going on" is very accurate. The rules supposedly said that hands were caned and bottoms were slippered. But probably some teachers were caning kids on their bottoms. And some PE teachers were probably slippering kids on their bare bottoms.
