TV Drama: Rockingham Shoot
The Rockingham Shoot
is a 1987 BBC TV play based on a short story of the same name by John
McGahern.
It is set in Ireland and centres on a
Republican school
teacher, Reilly, who is against the ruling British. In this clip he punishes
his pupils severely for missing school to earn money working at the shoot
organised by the local Anglo-Irish family. Reilly regards this defiant act as
yet another example of the Irish tipping the hat to the English and bending to
their will.
