‘Caning’ for headmaster who beat exam slackers
A national newspaper writer berates a
headmaster who said he had no regrets in caning exam slackers (see
that story here). ‘On a cold day in
January in the headmaster’s study in Wiltshire I was given six, hard
well-spaced and extremely painful strokes of the cane,’ Denis Pitts recalls in
1959.
As published in the Daily Herald,
20 February 1959.
