Movie: Puberty Blues
Here’s an Australian ‘coming-of-age’ surfing movie
from 1981 called Puberty Blues. According to reviewers
it’s based on a ‘protofeminist’ novel of the same name.
The story focuses on two teenage girls from the
middle-class Sutherland Shire in Sydney. The girls attempt to create
a popular social status by ingratiating themselves with the
"Greenhill gang" of surfers, who like many alpha males of this
era have a careless attitude toward casual sex, drugs and alcohol over the
course of one summer.
Some of it takes place in High school which is where
this clip is set. The actors are playing characters aged sixteen.
Picture and video credit: Roadshow Films. It is available on DVD and Blu-ray.

Interesting to see a clip of boys being caned in front of girls even though it's on the hands.
ReplyDeleteI recall a tv scene once where a boy was caned by the Headmaster and then saw his girlfriend sitting on the cafeteria afterwards. She signals him to sit with her but he leaps up clutching his rear and the girls quips , "Been to the Heads office again?"and he nods yes.
Wish I could recall the source.
That sounds like a hard swish of the cane.
