Movie: Young Winston

Young Winston is a 1972 British biographical adventure drama war film covering the early years of British Prime Minister Winston Churchill, based in particular on his 1930 book, My Early Life. The first part of the film covers Churchill's schooldays, up to the death of his father.

As a boy, Churchill is sent to a boarding school but is unhappy there. Due to excessive whippings, Churchill is removed from there and sent to another school, Harrow School.

In this clip the headmaster played with great relish by Robert Hardy drips sarcasm as he publicly reads out the various misdeeds of the boys before inviting them to visit his study.

The film was written and produced by Carl Foreman and directed by Richard Attenborough and is available to buy here.

  1. Thank you for posting this video clip, it's very interesting. I think the "available to buy here" link might need fixing.
