Pillow fight caning ends in court
Story
of Boy “Rebel”
There was a sequel at Hove yesterday to a pillow fight
at Lansdown College, a boarding school in Wilbury Road, Hove, when Albert
Berman was summoned for an alleged assault on Mark Levy, a pupil.
It was stated that when the boy went to the school
Berman was told by the parents that a specialist had ordered that the boy
should not receive corporal punishment, as he was highly strung.
On September 27 there was a pillow fight in the boys’
dormitory, and it was alleged that Berman thrashed the boy with a cane,
inflicting bruises. As a result Levy ran away from the school.
Berman, it was stated, subsequently wrote to the boy’s
father expressing his sorrow at what had happened.
The defence was that Berman simply gave Levy a normal
caning, and that the boy was insolent to everybody and had incited the pupils
to rebellion.
The case was dismissed.
