Memories: Shane Warne talks about being caned at school (many times)

Shane Warne, the Australian cricketer, considered by many as one of the greatest bowlers in history, was caned many times at school. He said (jokingly?), “I must have enjoyed it because I kept going back.”

He told Michael Parkinson (the best known British chat show host in history) in a special interview in 2007, he would often be sent to the headmaster after misbehaving. There was always a routine, Shane said, “The headmaster would say “Righty-ho! I’m going to practice my golf swing on you ... You know the routine, bend over, lift your blazer up... So I’d lift the blazer up.” Then there was a swishing noise. “Just practicing.” Then, “Six of the best each time.”
