Tom Brown’s Schooldays: Movie

As we saw television directors took very different approaches to the discipline scenes in Tom Brown’s Schooldays. The BBC in 1971 went full-on and in our face. In 2005, ITV drowned it in mood music.

Here’s the 1940 movie version starring Cedric Hardwicke as Dr Arnold, the headmaster, and Jimmy Lydon as Tom.

Tom and the school bully Flashman have been fighting and are summoned to the headmaster’s office.
