Cane for school kisses
LONDON, Fri. (A.A.P.)— The caning
of six London boys for kissing girls at school was mentioned in the House of
Commons yesterday.
Mr. Peter Freeman (Labour) asked
whether this punishment accorded with regulations and whether the parents were
consulted.
The kissing, he observed
amid laughter, occurred after school hours.
The master’s action in
caning the boys was likely to lead to children doing privately what they did
naturally and openly.
The Minister for Education (Mr.
Tomlinson) said, he declined to intervene and added: “I should imagine the
youngsters thought it was worth it.”
Laughter greeted a remark
by Conservative member Sir Thomas Moore, who said: “Surely the real issue is
this: Was the kissing worth the caning?”
