A caning for Sir
Traditionalists may yearn for the days when teachers could give errant schoolchildren six of the best. But what about caning teachers in front of their pupils? That was the sight which greeted children at a primary school in Uganda earlier this month.
A local government official
had been passing the school in his chauffeur-driven car when he spotted a
teacher giving his class a sound whacking. He immediately hopped out of his car
and demanded whether the teacher knew that corporal punishment was illegal in
Uganda.
When the teacher admitted
that, yes, he did, the official took justice into his own hands and caned him
in front of his class.
