Caning of schoolboys: It still happens
Here’s evidence that the caning of
schoolboys is still happening and hasn’t been confined to the dustbin of
history.
Newspaper reports published last month (May 2026) tell how in Singapore male school students who bully others – including by bullying online – could get the cane.
As
published in the Guardian (UK), 9 May 2026.
The Independent (UK) also had a longer
version of the report (online here)

This story reminds me of how British schools that still caned in the late 20th century, also said that it was only used as a "last resort" for the worst types of misbehaviour. And then how, actually, they were giving canings all the time, even for the most trivial things. And not as a last resort at all.
