Early Adventures of Leonard Henry
Here’s a curiosity from 1937,
‘The Early Adventure of Leonard Henry,’ who is described as ‘radio’s famous comedian’. He is not to be confused
with Lenny Henry the present-day famous comedian.
Pilot, a boys’ story paper that launched in 1935 and ran
for only 131 issues, often featured stories involving real life characters,
such as Will Hay, who had a comedy act involving a schoolmaster. We met him here.
In this extract from Leonard
Henry, the boy is set upon by prefects brandishing canes. But Leonard is
wearing a bullet-proof suit (go figure!) and doesn’t feel a thing.
Extracts from the Pilot
are on the Friardale website.
As published in
the Pilot, 20 February 1937.
