Head gives the cane to cleaners

THREE black cleaners were called in by the headmaster of the South African school where they worked and given six of the best.

The incident at the school near Pretoria is being investigated by education officials in the Transvaal.

The three men aged between 47 and 36, said they were told by the head, Piet Smit, they had not cleaned the school properly. He made them bend over and gave them each two strokes.

One said: “We felt humiliated. He treated us as if we were children.”
