Extract: Pig Trotters
We know that for more than 40
years school stories dominated boys’ story papers in the UK at the start of the
last century. Here’s one of the most unusual of their kind. It involves Trig
Potters who has a speech infliction known as Spoonerism which makes you twist your
words around. So Trig Potters was apt to call himself Pig Trotters and that’s
how the story got its name.
And that’s pretty much all
there is to say really. This example is from the Rover in 1927. I have no idea how long the series lasted but I’d imagine it
ran out of steam fairly quickly.
