in Northern Ireland ran this feature about celebrities who had been caned as
youngsters.

In a later part of his autobiography, Stephen Fry also describes giving a very ineffective slippering while a housemaster at a preparatory boarding school. The recipient, punished in his pyjamas for messing around after bedtime, might've been aged 11 or so and seemed thoroughly unimpressed. He said something like "is that it, Sir?"
ReplyDeleteThe newspaper's list of five recipients is of course very incomplete. Charles III, Tony Blair and various sportspeople and other politicians would be other examples.
