Comic: Bash Street Kids 3
Before Harry Potter came
along, Bash Street must have been the most famous school in childrens’
literature.
The Bash Street Kids
started in the Beano comic in 1954 and is still going seven decades
later. The strip follows the chaotic pupils of Class
2B – an exaggerated, affectionate parody of mid‑20th‑century British school
life with the kids’ mischief satirizing school rules, authority, and childhood
group dynamics. For decades it was frozen in time – the 1950s.
The class is taught by Teacher (that’s his
name) who is a long‑suffering authority figure. The cane is much in evidence,
but the stories are surreal and nobody really gets hurt.
Here are some examples.
We already met the Bash Street Kids here.
