Couldn’t ride bike after spanking

He missed some good television programmes? Poor little darling.
ReplyDeleteRather than missing TV programmes I was more concerned with whether my father was aware of my being caned as that might mean a hearty dose of his slipper when he got home from work.
DeleteI had to smile at the comment 'he had to pedal home in a standing position'. I can remember cycling home like that several times after a sound caning but in my case they definitely weren't light strokes and there was not the slightest sympathy from anyone either.TR

ReplyDeleteGrowing up I had horses. This reminds me of one time I got a good hiding from my step dad with his thick leather belt. I couldn't ride for days after.
ReplyDeleteFor anyone curious, $2,998 in 1955 works out to about $36,000 today, or roughly £26,800. That’s around $9,000 or £6,700 per swat. The boy had been spoken to several times and was even offered the option of being kept back, so the school was more than reasonable. The jury took 18 minutes to deliberate; I imagine 16 of those were spent laughing.
