In a newspaper debate on school caning in 1998, a father in favour of bringing it back recalled his own experience at school.



At the time of the article, the cane had been outlawed in British schools for more than 10 years.

  3. I suggest that, as he is nowhere near touching the floor, he wants to get up as soon as he feels it's getting too much. If he were confident of staying the course he would bend double and let the teacher get on with it.
